Don’t Judge Book by its Cover & Kitabı kapağına göre yargılamayın….Inspiring story….
Sultan Murad IV, the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1623-1640, would often anonymously go into the midst of the people and see their state. One evening, he felt an uneasiness in himself and the urge to go out. He called for his head of security and out they went. They came to a busy vicinity, and found a man lying on the ground. The Sultan prodded him but he was dead and the people were going about their own business. Nobody seemed to care about the dead man lying on the ground.
The Sultan called upon the people. They didn’t recognise him and asked him what he wanted. He said,
“Why is this man lying dead on the ground and why does no one seem to care? Where is his family?”
They replied,
“He is so and so, the drunkard and fornicator!”
The Sultan said,
“Is he not from the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ? Now help me carry him to his house”
The people carried the dead man with the Sultan to his house and once they reached, they all left. The Sultan and his assistant remained. When the man’s wife saw his dead body, she began weeping. She said to his dead body,
“May Allah have mercy on you! O friend of Allah! I bear witness that you are from the pious ones.”
The Sultan was bewildered. He said,
“How is he from the pious ones when the people say such and such about him? So much so that no one even cared he was dead!”
She replied,
I was expecting that. My husband would go to the tavern every night and buy as much wine as he could. He would then bring it home and pour it all down the drain. He would then say, “I saved the Muslims a little today.” He would then go to a prostitute, give her some money and tell her to close her door till the morning. He would then return home for a second time and say, “Today, I saved a young woman and the youth of the believers from vice.”
Winter Rags by Richard Lithgow
The people would see him buying wine and they would see him going to the prostitutes and they would consequently talk about him. One day I said to him,
“When you die, there will be no one to bathe you, there will be no one to pray over you and there will be no one to bury you!”
He laughed and replied,
“Don’t fear, the Sultan of the believers, along with the pious ones shall pray over my body.”
The Sultan began to cry. He said,
“By Allah! He has said the truth, for I am Sultan Murad. Tomorrow we shall bathe him, pray over him and bury him.”
And it so happened that the Sultan, the scholars, the pious people and the masses prayed over him.
We judge people by what we see and what we hear from others. Only if we were to see what was concealed in their hearts, a secret between them and their Lord. If Allah knows, why does it matter who knows and who doesn’t know?!
”O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Accepting of repentance and Merciful.
Surat Al-Hujurat [49:12]
– Nerden biliyorsunuz?
– Müsaade ette bilelim yani. Kırk yıllık komşumuz.
Bir başkası tafsilata girer.
-‘Biliyor musunuz?’ Aslında iyi sanatkârdır. Azaplar çarşısında çalışır, nalının hasını yapar. Ancak kazandıklarını içkiye, fuhşa harcar. Hem şişe şişe şarap taşır evine, hem nerede namlı mimli kadın varsa takar peşine.Hele yaşlının biri çok öfkelidir.
-İsterseniz komşulara sorun. Sorun bakalım, onu bir kere olsun cemaatte gören olmuş mu?
Hasılı mahalleli döner ardını gider. Bizim tebdil-i kıyafet mollalar kalırlar mı ortada.
– Nereye?
– Bilmem. Bu adamdan uzak durmayı yeğlersiniz sanırım.
– Millet bu, çeker gider. Kimseye bir şey diyemem. Ama biz gidemeyiz. Öyle veya böyle tebamızdır. Defnini tamamlasak gerek.
– İyi ya, saraydan birkaç hoca yollar, kurtuluruz vebalden.
– Olmaz. Rüyadaki hikmeti çözemedik daha.
– Peki ne yapmamı emir buyurursunuz?
– Mollalığa devam. Naaşı kaldırmalıyız en azından.
– Aman efendim. Nasıl kaldırırız?
– Basbayağı kaldırırız işte.
– Yapmayın etmeyin sultanım, bunun yıkanması paklanması var. Tekfini, telkini…
– Merak etme ben beceririm. Ama önce bir gasılhane bulmalıyız.
– Şurada bir mahalle mescidi var ama…
– Olmaz.
– Niye?
– Ümmet-i Muhammed içmesin diye.
– Hayret.

Assalamu’alaikum janam, Masha Allah.. i ❤ this story!
"Wahai Orang- orang beriman!

“When you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you openly.” ~Matthew 6:3-4
22/04/2015 5:54 am
True said but ”your Father ” one wrong word because Allah,praise to Him in His Highness,as He Described Himself in the Holy Quran ;
Say, “He is Allah , [who is] One,Allah , the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born,Nor is there to Him any equivalent.”
Surat Al-‘Ikhlas
The Jews say, “Ezra is the son of Allah “; and the Christians say, “The Messiah is the son of Allah .” That is their statement from their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved [before them]. May Allah destroy them; how are they deluded?
Surat At-Tawbah [9:30]
They have certainly disbelieved who say, ” Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary” while the Messiah has said, “O Children of Israel, worship Allah , my Lord and your Lord.” Indeed, he who associates others with Allah – Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers. They have certainly disbelieved who say, ” Allah is the third of three.” And there is no god except one God. And if they do not desist from what they are saying, there will surely afflict the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.
Surat Al-Ma’idah [5:72-73]
May Allah help you and show you the straight path!

Not judging “a book by its cover” is such an important lesson to learn. Actually we are asked to judge others at all but to leave any judgment to the Lord. So often, easier said that done. We need to try to look at others with the eyes of our hearts instead of our sighted eyes. Blessings, Natalie 🙂 ❤
22/04/2015 5:34 am
Let not your tongue mention the shame of another,For you yourself are covered in shame and all men have tongues. If your eye falls upon the sin of your brother,Shield them and say, “Oh my eye! All men have eyes!

what is apparent is not real, Semra, like the mirage in the desert. And reaching the ultimate truth is the worldly challenge we are in. It is enough to consider that we are rivers in different lands and climes, flowing to unify in the ocean of truth. Thanks for the gems from Quran. We are only enriched by it…
